Multi-Drug Tests
   GC/MS Testing
Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry Test Service

Our tests provide only a preliminary analytical test result. A more specific alternative chemical method must be used in order to obtain a confirmed analytical result. Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) is the preferred confirmatory method. Clinical consideration and professional judgment should be applied to any drug of abuse test result, particularly when preliminary positive results are used.

AngelScope are now working in partnership with LGC, Europe’s leading independent analytical laboratory, which is UKAS and BS EN 9001 accredited. They provide us with advanced chemical, biochemical and forensic analysis using the GC/MS analyser to do confirmation, which would be admissible in a court of law if a positive test were challenged by a suspected donor.

It is important that the confirmation is carried out using the chain of custody kits provided by us and carried out under full chain of custody conditions for the test to cover all legal requirements. We provide full training and support in making sure that both our clients and donors are fully covered.

The collection kits consist of a beaker used for taking the sample, two plastic pots & one tube into which the sample is divided and a tamper evident bag. The whole kit is certified as being drug free. The outer pot has a temperature strip attached to it to help determine that the urine is at or near body temperature at the time of sampling. The chain of custody documentation consists of a three part copy form, barcodes and tamper evident strips. Any medication that the donor is taking should be noted on the form at the time of sampling. The top part of the form (which does not include the donor’s name) is returned to LGC with the samples. The other two parts are retained by the sampling personnel and the Medical Review Officer.

All tests include initial screening and any necessary confirmatory tests. Initial screening will be by immunoassay technology. Confirmation will be achieved by using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry or Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LSD) only, except in the case of alcohol where confirmation will be by Dual Column Headspace Gas Chromatography.

Results will be subject to expert Toxicological review for any confirmed positive results. This review will compare the results to any medication declared by the donor at the time of sampling and give an opinion as to whether the medication caused the result.

Where required expert witness services relating to drug testing issues can be supplied. We also offer a help manual to employers and schools who are initiating an employment or school drug policy and legally binding contracts for drug testing and full training.
